The January transfer window is always a time of feverish rumour and possible big-money transfers. A number of high-profile footballers find themselves connected to moves out of their current clubs. We examine a selection of the major names who might be on the move this month.

A. Semenyo

Despite Ghana's inability to reach the Africa Cup of Nations, which has left the player available, reports suggest an important transfer is imminent. The Bournemouth attacker possesses a contract featuring a substantial release clause applicable for a two-week window at the start of the month. Latest reports suggest Manchester City have emerged as his services. Former interested parties such as Chelsea and Tottenham are said to have moved on to other options, potentially opening the door for clubs like Manchester United or Liverpool to make a last-minute bid.

This England defender has excel for Crystal Palace this season a previous move to Anfield collapsing. The Portugal playmaker could be poised for a comeback to the Premier League after a period in the Saudi Pro League. Furthermore, there are rumours from Spanish media that he would be willing to accept a reduced salary for a move to the Spanish giants.

Marc-André ter Stegen

This veteran Germany shot-stopper is now as third-choice at Barça following new manager Hansi Flick. After lost his place and undergone surgery, a January exit looks increasingly likely. Villa were once linked as a possible suitor, but that move now appears unlikely. Instead, interest from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are thought to be expressing interest in the 33-year-old.

I. Toney

The prolific English centre-forward has continued finding the net frequently in Saudi Arabia. Coming back to the Premier League could enhance his dwindling chances of making the England World Cup. However, arranging a deal poses major challenges. Al-Ahli are reluctant to sell him, and his alleged enormous salary make any move difficult. Tottenham, Manchester United, and Everton are all mentioned as admirers.

The Turin club are desperate to tie down the 20-year-old to a lengthy contract but are in a battle to retain one of the continent's most promising young talents.

K. Smit

The highly-touted Netherlands midfielder has earned parallels to a Belgian superstar for his playing style. After starring at the Under-19 European Championship, Smit has broken into the AZ Alkmaar side. This teenager is widely tipped to make a big-money move in January. Newcastle United reportedly are leading the chase, but could face stiff rivalry from the Spanish champions for a signing priced at around twenty-two million pounds.
